The army ant, Eciton burchellii, ranks as one of the most amazing insects of neotropical forests. With a nomadic lifestyle and overwhelming numbers, these ants have a huge ecological footprint. At least several hundred other animals from insects to birds depend upon these ants in some way. We’ll look at the unique life cycle of army ants and the diversity of their camp followers.
Along with refreshments, you will enjoy viewing some of the Academy’s spectacular insect specimens, including army ants, displayed in the meeting room.
