Entomology has been of critical importance to humanity since at least the Agricultural Revolution. Today, we are faced with the continuing challenges of protecting public health and global food resources, while concurrently addressing a perceived decline in insect abundance and diversity. Meanwhile, the discipline itself faces criticism for its colonial history, and failure in accommodating and promoting human diversity within its ranks. This presentation is designed to spark thoughtful consideration of where entomology has been, and where it is going. Not to fear, young entomologists are spearheading efforts to reform the science, perhaps changing the course of human history for the better.
