Military entomology’s evolution, from early disease control efforts against threats like malaria and typhus through today’s multifaceted challenges, is crucial to protecting US military personnel and their families. This presentation examines this history and highlights the Army Public Health Command’s current role in pest management and health protection within the Northeastern United States.

James Butler
James Butler, a Medical Entomologist with the US Army Public Health Command, is a specialist in entomological training, pest management program reviews, and vector-borne disease consultation across the Eastern United States. He also contributes to inter-agency working groups and serves on the Operations Committee of the Armed Forces Pest Management Board. Expanding his commitment to public health and entomology, Mr. Butler developed and instructs a novel Pest Management workforce development course at Cecil College.
